Spring sets from Kyosho and PN were available very early on, and most racers use these today. These springs work great on the 03 front end, but no matter how careful you polish the king pins, balls and every suspension part, the 03 front never feels like a well prepped MR-02 front.
Until now!
Reflex Racing has finally came up with a product that makes the front end really work as it should.
This consists of two parts.
- Delrin pivot balls
- Long Ti nitride coated King Pins
As you can see from the picture, the springs are now located on top of the king pins, rather than at the end of the suspension arms.
I see the following benefits
- You can use all your trusted MR-02 springs, and they act as the same hardness you are used to.
- Easier to set up, since you are familiar with the spring characteristics
- Cost saving. You don't have to buy every available spring set to find the ones you get the right feel with since you most probably have them already.
- Smooooooooooth suspension. This is incredible. More on that later.
Mounting:
Delrin pivot balls. Fits perfectly. I did not even had to polish anything. Much smoother than the stainless orignal ones.
King Pins. Again. Fits perfectly. No polishing needed. These are a direct fit.
The height of this suspension looks tall compared to the stock front end, but I have yet to find a body that does not fit. They are not taller than the MR-02 King pins, so I guess every body out there fits just fine.
When I had them installed, I was amazed by how smooth the suspension got. This is absolutely incredible.
White PN low-down springs was chosen.
1 mm shim under the knuckle
0,2 mm shim on top of the knuckle to get the static camber i needed.
Everything else was left untouched.
With the regular MR-03 front end, this car currently holds the track record. That was after a long night with just hotlaps trying to lower the record.
I headed to the track as soon as it was installed, and slapped in a battery set.
The car was dialed from the beginning. I immediately was on the pace, and was able to get within half a tenth of the lap record in few laps. That is incredible, as the track usually gets more and more grippy hour by hour. Unfortunately I had to get up early the next day, so I did not get the chance to drive it as much as I wanted to. But I assure you, the track record will soon be lowered.
This is hands down the most successful tuning part for the MR-03 as of today.
Buy it, and you will not regret it.
After a couple of weeks in use, this front end still rocks. It is solid, and very consistent from day to day.
This front end ow has the track record on two different permanent tracks. One very fast flowing layout, and one tight tricky layout.
Compared to the standard MR-03 front end, I feel I can claim it is roughly two tenths faster on a hotlap. That sounds much, but in this case true.
It reacts so good on setup changes, and is very easy and low maintenance.
To find a good setup, I have found that you favourite front springs from the MR-02 is almost always the correct ones to use.
This front end is now available trough Reflex Racing. See banner on the front page.
