Why you ask?
The windows in the Autoscale bodies are usually very heavy. This weight is at the highest possible point in your car, and this is something we usually dont want.
Typical weight of the stock windows are around 6 - 8 grams. Many of us do the "sunroof" mod to shave of some weight, and to lower the CG. You can save maybe 1,5 grams from this, and it is really noticeable in the handling of the cars.
Imagine what saving 4 - 6 grams will do.
The lexan windows gives you a real performance gain regarding CG and weight saving.
A couple of examples:
Lexus SC430.
Stock window: : 6,2
ATM Lexan 2,1
Nissan GT-R 08.
Stock window: 8,2 grams
ATM Lexan: 2,3 grams.
The fitment are really good. They are quite precise, and are vacuum formed to almost 100% the correct shape.
In this pic you see the GT-R 500. Here you replace not only the windows, but also the roof.
Here you see the SC430:
They are made as lexan pieces usually are, so that you have to cut away the extra material around the part you will want to use. Instructions are in the package, so this is not hard to understand.
You must also remove the tabs used for the stock window in your body before you glue it in.
These windows are clear. I like the way the car looks with them, and a lot of the lap counters out there use IR, and this will aid regarding better signal for the reciever unit.
With all this weight saved, you now have much more room for playing around with ballast and really hone in your perfect setup.
The only downside I find with these are that they are not allowed in some races.
For only around $3 you get a real good upgrade for your cars.
For now they are available for the following bodies:
Ferrari 360/ GTC
Ferrari F430
Chevrolet C5-R
Sauber C9
Nissan GT-R 500 2008
Lexus SC430
