Review Atomic Stock-R Motor

Atomic Stock-R Motor

  • Brush hood is different from the usual Mini-Z motors. These are the same concept as usual 540 motors etc. A nice touch
  • Brushes. This motor comes with copper brushes. These lasts reasonable long, but are a bit pricey.
  • Can. The can comes in chrome plating. It has ventilation holes on both top and bottom, so it runs pretty cool.
  • Cables. The cables are very flexible, and easy to arrange in a way that don't give you tweak. They are a bit to long for my taste, but that is an easy fix.
  • Armature. The armature seems to be of good quality.
  • Failure rate: Of a total number of 9 motors used, we have had no failures.
Performance:
This motor is fast. Actually a bit to fast for our track and tires. Most of the drivers struggles to get consistent lap times with this one, but can give you an advantage if you master it.
I think this is one of the fastest motors that can be used for racing, but still a bit to agressive.
The powerband is very peaky. it has plenty of torque, but the motor tends to kick in late in the powerband.
Even though it is a modified motor, it is safe to use on stock FET's on the 2,4GHz cars. You must change the FET's on AM cars.
One thing is that you can gear this one to the moon. It seems to run cooler with higher gearing.
Preferred gearing at our track: 12/ 53 (64 pitch).

Compared to:
Atomic AD stock: Same brush hoods. The AD stock is comparable when silver brushes are fitted. This is also a very nice driveable motor.
Atomic Stock-R: Not as diriveable. More top end.
