Review Reflex Racing Spur gear

Reducing rotating mass is critical in extracting performance from your Mini-Z.
You will get an increase in response. Acceleration and deceleration is increased, and your batteries will last longer.


Reflex Racing has a product that will help you with this. The Reflex Racing 64 pitch machined Delrin Spur gear.
This is also made to minimize the friction between the pinion and spur, further freeing up your drive train.

It is a lot lighter than any other spur out there. it is also very durable since it is made from delrin. It comes with no center bearing, witch i think is a good thing. reason: The bearing is quite heavy, and also high maintenance. It is in my view also not needed in this application.


The spur is a lot thinner than other spurs. This helps with friction as well.
Adjusting the diff tension with this gear is for some reason very sensitive. You have to adjust in very small increments, but by doing so you can achieve a perfect diff action. 


It has space for 6 balls, witch also is a good thing, since 10 balls are to much, and 5 is sometimes to little. On our high grip track 10 balls are never necessary, and just adds weight to your drive train. 5 balls can be to little, and gives excessive slipping.


The spur is high quality, but can be a bit tricky to install correctly. You have to shim your differential a little bit because it is so much thinner than other spurs. Reflex Racing has made this easy, and are providing a spacer set that works like a dream. Most of us has modified the diff housing to be used together with 64 pitch spurs already, and the shim set is the perfect match for this. Part number for the shim set is: RX1133


I mounted this with a PN alu diff shaft, and QteQ diff parts. And I really struggled with my car. It had so much more motor brake, and the acceleration it provides is massive. After adjusting the diff a lot looser than usual, I managed to get the car hooked up again. 
Just the deceleration alone is worth it.


You also get an ultra responsive car, since your throttle input are instant. You get a lot better feel for your car.


Combine this with PN Racing Ultra light alu diff shaft, and QteQ diff parts, you get the ultimate differential. This is actually lighter than the stock plastic diff!!!!!

I have used this spur gear for about 50 hours of runtime now, and you cant even notice or feel any wear.
